GREENHOUSE PROJECT EXAMPLE
Northern Portugal
This was a large greenhouse project with 6 greenhouses using 812 units 600W HPS luminaires. This was for the farming on herbs and leafy greens.
The aim of the project was to upgrade the lighting to reduce energy and where possible increase the illumination performance.
The change over to ARON LED Horti-TOP Master, enabled a reduction in the power profile of the HPS lighting scheme which enabled major savings on the cost of replacing lamps and ballasts for the existing lighting. The total life cost comparison is very much in favour of the replacement.
The potential saving on energy is 42%
The required levels of DLI were achieved
The uniformity was variable and increased up to 42%
The savings on replacement lamps, Ballasts and labour was circa €50K/year.

This is the chart showing the impact on the DLI delivered after transmission through the glass type used in for the greenhouses. The natural DLI is the rated average for day/sunlight for the geographical location of the project.

This is the calculation table to exactly assess the DLI delivery of the light from the LED luminaire, and the required PPFD impact at the measured plane in relation to the hours of use of the luminaires.

This is a chart representation of the calculations made to assess the required supplementary artificial illumination required to maintain the targeted level of DLI required. It also shows the time period the luminaires are required to be operating.

This chart shows the hour/day for each month of the year to meet the DLI targets and also enables the user to manage the actual usage of the lighting. Which increases energy saving possibilities.

This table represents the consolidation of the results for all the greenhouses in this project and the comparative results to their old HPS installation.

This is the calculation on the energy saving.
