The floriculture industry is a thriving international market worth billions of dollars. It encompasses the production of various plants, including bedding and garden plants, foliage plants, potted flowering plants, cut flowers, cut cultivated greens, and floriculture materials.
Plants play a crucial role in human health, both horticulturally and medicinally. They possess a range of photoreceptors that interact with different wavelengths of light. Among these, cryptochrome is stimulated by the UV-A/blue region of the light spectrum, triggering specific defense reactions (Fig.7). These defense reactions require energy, leading plants to produce secondary metabolites like vitamin C, anthocyanins, and phenolic compounds, which hold significant value for human consumption.
